In December 2008, The Cairns Art Society Inc. were presented with the opportunity to establish a retail gallery within the Direct Factory Outlet Shopping Complex at Westcourt Plaza.
The Society did not hesitate in accepting this valuable
inclusion into the newest retail venue in the city. The Gallery (Tenancy 22
on the Eastern side of the Centre) is an inviting 159 sq. metres of extremely well-lit, un-hindered, air conditioned space that is conducive to easy viewing of more than 70 diversified art pieces on display. Works range from traditional
water-colour and oil paintings, to contemporary mixed media as well as
ceramics and hand built sculptural pieces. Also available is a large selection of
individual hand-made greeting cards.
The Art Society has more than 300 members and many of them take this
opportunity to showcase their talent. The Gallery is manned by the members so communication with one of the practising artists is as easy as stepping to the counter. Every piece is offered for purchase with the convenience of EFTPOS facilities available.
Trading and viewing hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m - seven days a week. This includes regular “bazaar stalls” held several times a year, that are stocked
with all variety of hand made items.
